Mexico LA was written by vocalist Stuart Flenley and guitarist Zac Rush (Darling James, Dan Parsons) in response to his nerves about an impending overseas flight. It drifts between steering-wheel-tapping west coast sounds and south-of-the-border salsa, fitting of its title.
The B-Side is a live take of another original, ‘Chris’, a spaghetti-western-styled tribute to the band’s founder and pianist Chris Aqualina, who retired in 2012, passing piano duties to Robin Waters (The Boat People, Machine Translations), who also recorded the single. Indie-rock favourites, Rudely Interrupted, are supporting The Hackkets at their single launch at the Reverence on 30 October.
